EKSTRA!

REVIU PEMENTASAN
Segar, lucu & mendidik

Pelakon cilik Sriwana berjaya hayati dialog bangsawan

Oleh
Nadiputra

Pementasan: Bangsawan Cilik Putri Anggun Delima

Karya: Rilla Melati Bahri

Arahan: Izzat Mohd Yusoff, persembahan Sriwana

Tarikh: Ahad, 19 Julai, 4 petang dan 8 malam, Panggung Victoria.

SELEPAS pementasan, apabila saya meminta komen Penaung Sriwana, Encik Hawazi Daipi, Setiausaha Parlimen Kanan, Kementerian Tenaga Manusia dan Kementerian Kesihatan, mengenai bangsawan baru ditontoninya, sambil tersenyum lebar dan menghela nafas, beliau mengaku seronok dan terhibur.

Presiden Sriwana, Cik Fauziah Hanom, pula gamam dan berasa takut mahu bercakap.

Yalah 'takut masuk bakul angkat sendiri.' Saya akur.

Rata-rata hampir kesemua pelakon cilik berjaya menghayati dialog bangsawan.

Legend has it that the world’s biggest flower, the Rafflesia was once a beautiful princess…

Helmi gets absorbed by a book during a school excursion about the flora and fauna of Borneo, in particular the Rafflesia. Tasked to do a school project on "saving the environment" Helmi and his good friend Rozana decide to convince Mrs Wong on a creative approach in doing their class presentation not knowing that an adventure was about to begin.

Inside the palace of 'Sultan Alam Shah' the evil Queen Hina plots to get rid of her stepdaughter Princess Anggun Delima. Jealous of her husband’s love for the princess, Queen Hina plans for the princess to be married off and taken away from the palace. When her plans failed, she consults the help of a witch who gave her a magic potion that will turn the princess into an inhabitant of the forest, permanently detached from her father the King, forever.

What can the magic potion really do? Will the evil Queen get away with her hideous plans? Can the princess be saved in time?

A tale told to the audience through the eyes of two present day students, this play will emphasize the importance of treasuring friendship and family and the need to create a peaceful and harmonious society. A special platform to display the talents of the children's drama workshop, this performance is Sriwana's maiden effort at reviving the art of "bangsawan" to be appreciated by the younger generation of theatre goers.

Cyberita Harian - 26hb November 2008

GEMBIRA PELAPIS MUDA HIDUPKAN SRIWANA

DENGAR-DENGAR
GAMAT MAJLIS RAYA SRIWANA

Pelbagai gaya tarian mereka tunjukkan.

DO THE SUMAZAU…
all 11 troupes move to the beat of the ‘Sayang Kinabalu’
song sung by the Polish Dance Troupe

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah International Folklore Festival will be held in a bigger scale with better promotion in the future.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun said the event had not been widely promoted.

“We accept that presently, we are still at the experimental stage as we want to gauge the response from other countries,” he told reporters after watching the prime show held at the Auditorium Tun Raffae here on Wednesday evening.

He assured that the next time around, the event would be held on a grander scale given the foundation and the budget for it.

Masidi said that he was enthusiastic with the response he saw from the public at the premiere show.

“It was very positive…I believe the response will be the same in the next two days,” he said.
At the same time, he said that the event would help foster better relations between Sabah and other countries in the world, as it would promote understanding and friendship beyond borders.
“It will also allow us to get together,” he said.
Masidi also said that his ministry would market the event as part of its diverse tourism products.

He explained that tourism was among three of the main pillars of economy in Sabah.
“About 60 percent of our visitors are repeat visitors, and most of the time, our hotels are 100 percent booked. We are still short of 6,000 rooms,” he said.
He said that Sabah is unique due to its myriad of culture and races.
“We are also unique because of the high level of racial tolerance practiced by every race in the state.

“It is not impossible to find a family practicing different religious beliefs living harmonically with each other,” he said.

Meanwhile, the packed auditorium saw the excited audience witnessing exquisite performances by 11 foreign dance ensembles participating in the third Sabah International Folklore Festival.
Tickets sold at RM50 and RM20, respectively, were quickly sold out.
Some people expecting to be able to purchase their tickets at the venue were disappointed as only 1,000 seats were allocated.

The entertainers comprising the PESAKA dancers from Brunei, Menghai County’s Art Troupe (China), Malwa Sabhyacharak Club (India), Japan Dance Club (Japan), On Alty Kyz (Kazakhstan), Kalve and Mrupisie (Latvia), Kortowo (Poland), Rovesniki National Folkdance (Russia), Saudi Arabia folk dancers, Sriwana (Singapore) and Naresuan University folk and dance group (Thailand).

Each performance was unique. The Rovesniki National Folkdance Ensemble charmed the crowd with their highly energetic dance and acrobatic performance. The ensemble is formed by a group of girls and boys aged five to 18 years old.

China’s Menghai County’s Art Troupe and Thailand’s Naresuan University’s folk and dance group also enthralled patrons with their melodic musical performances using the very basic music instruments made mainly of bamboo.

BERITA HARIAN 14th September 2007

REVIU PEMENTASAN REFLEKSI
MENATANG BUDAYA
OlehIzad Omar Penulis Sambilan
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

REFLEKSI seni, menatang budaya.

The annual production of variety show at Victoria Theatre had been the stalwart bastion for Sriwana, the performing arts group incorporated in the Republic of Singapore since the early 1950’s. Sriwana had pioneered, created and excelled with some of the most stunning Malay cultural, stage and multimedia productions ever to be seen on stage, both locally and overseas. It had set the standard for cultural groups to follow and expectations are high for the each new production to match or even outshine its predecessors.

It is therefore imperative that the 2006 show continues its spirited attempts as a mainstay of Sriwana, a household name within the Malay community, in its the valiant effort to keep abreast with the nation’s dynamic progress through cultural and artistic involvement.

In a synergistic collaboration of efforts between Sriwana, its partners and the NAC, the vision for the 2006 show is set to be the precedent for future projects. Sriwana had always delivered on quality and substance and ensured that standards of performances are high and the production team is of the highest quality on terms of calibre, experience and capability. As such, respected individuals in each area of expertise will be engaged to ensure the success and integrity of the 2006 show, historically, culturally and artistically.

It is with much pleasure that Sriwana wants to go ‘retro’ and revive the glory of the pat by honoring the top works of veteran theatre activists. It is for these reasons that Sriwana wants to incorporate a 2-part project which include :

1) A dance rendition through “Permata”
2) Bangsawan play, “Sari Derhaka”

PART 1 : PERMATA – A DANCE SPECTACLE OF TRADITIONAL VALUES

SRIWANA having turned 50 last year had reached her epitome of wealth in experience and information. It is with this pride and the feelings of responsible to the society that Sriwana is now back with another major dance production which will exhibit its prowess in the arts. Pledging always the preserving of our rich cultural heritage “Permata” will present an interesting blend of the old and new. This refreshing showcase will also create an awareness to the public of their responsibility in preserving and supporting the local arts group in their individual drives of national responsibility to the arts.

PART 2 : BANGSAWAN – PIONEERING THE LONG LOST ART

Bangsawan theatre is to the Malay community as to what Shakespeare is to the English. It had played a vital part in shaping the direction of Malay theatre to what is it today.

It is also imperative that the general public and the Malay community in particular are made well aware of the current efforts of Sriwana to revive the artistic endeavours and inclinations of all parties.

Therefore, in a bold and visionary step towards progression, Sriwana had engaged the services of experienced professionals to assist in the production, marketing and coordination of the 2006 show in order to achieve the desired results on all key performance indicators, especially to increase the attendance of its shows, satisfaction and entertainment of the public. Directed by J.A Halim, a renowned actor and director, especially in the malay entertainment industry, Bangsawan – Sari Derhaka will be casted by many well-known artiste such as Alias Kadir, Mahadi Shor, Azman Shariff, Amir Kassim, Zainal Ihim, Ahmad Stokin who are just some of the few household names gracing this production.

SYNOPSIS

The play, Sari Derhaka revolves around the legend of Megat Terawis, a respected member and warrior of the royal family set in the early 15th century of old Pahang Kingdom. The story starts with the Prince, struck by the beauty of Megat Terawis’ wife, Siti Hanum, informs his father, the Sultan, of his intentions to prise Siti Hanum from Megat Terawis’ loving embrace.

The Sultan, in such a dilemma over the request of the Prince, consulted with Paduka Haji, a trusted adviser and confidante to the Sultan. To complicate matters further, Paduka Haji is the father of Megat Terawis. Being a loyal adviser to the Sultan and evaluating heavily the impending loss of his beloved daughter in law, Paduka Haji feels responsible to find a just and amicable solution to the problem but in truth, he understands that failing to succumb to the whims of the Sultan and the Prince amounts to treachery and punishable by death to him and his family, without due consideration.

With a heavy heart, Paduka Haji, in the presence of the Sultan, the Prince and Siti Hanum, he ordered that Megat Terawis divorced his wife and to surrender her to the Prince. Megat Terawis, a patriotic warrior and a strong believer of loyalty to the Sultan and against his better judgment and underlying emotional turmoil, agreed to his father’s wishes amid strong emotional resistance from Siti Hanum. Thus, separation from his loving wife is imminent. Siti Hanum, understanding the need to keep the good name of Paduka Haji and not to divert from the path of treachery to the Sultan accepts the decision, albeit involuntarily. The Sultan was pleased that the matter was resolved and the Prince relishes the fact that Siti Hanum is now within his grasp.

In the family home, however, Megat Sari, the younger brother of Megat Terawis feels that the family had committed a dishonorable act by succumbing to the wishes of the Sultan and the Prince. He showed his contempt and resistance openly to his family. Acting out of rage with vengeance in his mind, he subsequently kidnapped the Princess, which brings Megat Terawis hot on his heels.

The play ends with a face off between the two brothers and Megat Terawis emerging as the reluctant victor, with his dying brother in his arms.

To what extent should loyalty and patriotism be extended to personal considerations and to what extend does the Sultan have ultimate power over his people. Where lie justice when injustice seems to prevail and the innocents remains the victims?
